The small townships of Erica and Rawson are the heart of Gippsland’s Mountain Rivers Region as well as your perfect base for some bush and mountain exploration.

Come and explore the beauty of modern Rawson, built for the families who created the Thomson Dam. See why they bought their homes and stayed. Walk around the Crater Lake and look for some rare birds. Order take-aways or stock up with food from the General Store and grab a bottle or two from their bottle shop. Find the Stockyard Hotel for a real bush pub dining experience.

Discover the country charm of Erica and the genuinely old buildings still being used. Enjoy great food in the General Store or history-laden 1914 Café. Find a railway enthusiasts paradise. Explore the pub’s chainsaw museum and try a ‘hot rock’ steak. And Erica Ski Hire can hire you chains, skis, toboggans and other snow play needs in winter.

Take a short drive and find a seat on the spectacular Walhalla Goldfields Railway as it meanders through Stringer’s Gorge.

Wander around the fascinating history preserved in Olde Golde Walhalla. Discover the old tramways, explore a gold mine, join a ghost tour, check the Cemetery for your ancestors, look inside the fire station museum over the creek, grab your sugar fix from the Olde Lolly Shoppe, or relax at one of the coffee spots. And don’t miss the ‘Wally Pub’ for a big feed.

Drive a bit further and explore the forest walks around Mt Erica, the winter snow playground of Mt St Gwinnear, or take the South Face Road to the Mt Baw Baw ski-fields.

These are just a taste of what attracts more than 150 000 visitors each year to our Mountain Rivers region.

And if you dream of living in a place like our version of paradise, check us out. Housing is affordable. There is a Community Health Centre, great Primary School and Kinder, Police Station, heated swimming pool, MTB and BMX tracks. Cafes, country pubs and general stores too. There are some local jobs and more employment opportunities less than a half hour drive away in Latrobe City and Baw Baw Shire.

Welcome!
